Knights of the South Bronx

I watched Knights of the South Bronx last night. It was a bit of a mixture between School of Rock and Freedom Writers, but I did enjoy it. It contains elements which I always tend to find interesting in films - racism/gang violence etc, but a lot more light hearted that we see in Freedom Writers, or Crash for example (another film I watched recently). A film set in NYC is something I cannot resist and it was a pleasant change to see main characters aged 9/10 instead of teens. Despite having quite a predictable storyline and not a lot of character depth, I found it quite inspiring. The film is about how a substitute teacher (played by Ted Danson) teaches his students how to play chess and uses it as a device to gain their interest academically. Most importantly, he shows them how they can be winners when they don't believe in themselves.
